Reykjavík Folk Festival

Reykjavík Folk Festival - Mid March

Reykjavik Folk Festival is a folk music festival where Icelandic bands perform music of different types and origins but what all the artists have in common is that they play folk music, blues, world music or a mixture of all this.
Folk music has sometimes been defined as any music originating - at least, in its style - from friends or relatives; music by and for the common people and is carried from one generation to another. Often, this is because friends of family have gathered, sung and played their instruments at informal gatherings. The festival will evolve around joyful music, playing and singing and to present folk music from many different countries and the instruments will mostly be acoustic.
This new festival is an initiative by members of South River Band and their publishing company Tónsprotinn ehf, in collaboration with Rosenberg Café.
