Icelandic Open Water Swimming Championship in 2011
Open Water Swimming Championship will be held in Iceland in July 2011
There will be a two kinds of 5 km competition in the sea. One choice of competing will be in wetsuit and the other with swimsuit only. Also there is a choice of competing in a 1 km fun race - swimsuit only.
All these three competitions will be for both women and men at the same time.
The race starts in Nauthólsvík, Reykjavik´s beach area. The sand is white, and on the beach there is a big heated hot tup for competitors to relax in after the "cold" race. The water temperature is around 13°C in July.
Popularity of open water swimming
The popularity of open water swimming has been increasing for the last couple of years and those sorts of sportevents attracts international competitors from all over the world.
Open water swimming opened a whole new world of vacation opportunities for swimmers. And now it is possible in Iceland!!
So this is a great oppertunity to take a vacation in Iceland and participate in a open water swimming competition.
The facilities at Nauthólsvík geothermal Beach in Reykjavík
Nauthólsvík is a unique place where runoff hot water from the city's geothermal heating system is pumped into the ocean through the beach. The beach is made of golden sand and a manmade "pool" is enclosed nearby, where the water temperature is about 20ºC. Refreshments and various services are available at the beach.

Day one: Arrival to Reykjavik, check in at you Reykjavik Hotels of choice.
Day two: Explore the competition area and swim in the sea with AdventureBox. Relax after in the hot tub at the beach.
Day three: Competition day. Pick up will be one hour before competion starts. In the evening there will be a dinner at the Restaurant Fjalakötturinn.
Day four: Excursion of choice - not included. See choice with Adventure Box
Day five: Departure or extended stay!
Prices for Open Water Championship
Price per person EUR 470.
Included in the price; accommodation and breakfast, based on two people sharing a twin at Hotel Reykjavik or Grand Hotel Reykjavik.
Registration fee, pick up and drop off for competition.
Supplement for single room EUR 200.
Supplement for Hotel Reykjavik Centrum EUR 100.
